The Boulder Urantia Study Group
Skype Instructions |
|
|
Currently, Skype is available for Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista, Windows Mobile devices, Mac OS X and Linux. The following was taken from their website:
To get connect is a snap all that's required is to download and install the FREE current version of Skype available at http://www.skype.com/download/. This business of “Study Group” by Internet is all FREE. Skype is basically an internet phone system, but they’re doing all sorts of things, anything that will make them a buck. The first thing you’ll notice right up front is that there is an awful lot of Arabic communication going on. Well it’s used word wide so there will be all kinds of languages used in Skype. Here’s a little info about the program: Skype was founded in 2003 by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis. Skype created a little piece of software that makes communicating with people around the world easy and fun. With Skype you can say hello or share a laugh with anyone, anywhere. And if both of you are on Skype, it’s free. Skype is available in 28 languages and is used in almost every country around the world. Skype generates revenue through its premium offerings such as making and receiving calls to and from landline and mobile phones, as well as voicemail and call forwarding. Skype, based in Luxembourg, has relationships with a growing network of hardware and software providers and is an eBay company (NASDAQ: EBAY).
The Skype.com website is operated by: These instructions are broken down into 3 parts 1. Okay, let’s get to your setup? |
|
|
Okay, let’s get to your setup: 1. Download the Skype program from http://www.skype.com/download/ 2. After you download you install the program you will have to setup an account very similar to what YAHOO or MSN requires. But after the initial setup here is what Skype looks like:
3. Skype has a “Getting Started”, but you can basically just shut this down or you can go through it, it’s your decision.
4. Once you create your initial profile you can customize it using the Skype program go to “Files à Edit your Profile…” From here you can edit as much or as little of your information as you like:
5.
Now you are
completely setup with Skype. You should note that Skype has configured your PC
so that it starts whenever you start your PC. You can turn this off by
selecting:
6. Skype has also added a button to your Internet Explorer. There is a way to remove it and I believe it’s done by right clicking on it. And when it says it is being completely removed from your computer, believe me its COMPLETELY removed. I couldn’t even find a way to reinstall it so that I could show you a picture of it. 7. I believe that’s it, you should be finished with the installation. To quit the program you’ll have to “Click” it in the icon tray then select Quit. |

Now how do you connect to the Urantia Group? 1. On Friday night at around 7:30PM MST you will have to have the Skype program running. 2. Then you open your Internet Browser and go to https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/home. There you will find the following screen:
3. In the “Find a Skypecast” window type in Urantia and press “Search”
4. There will probably only be 2 selections found. Our is “The Boulder Urantia Study Group with Chris Halvorson”
It’s not showing on this screen now, but on the night of
the Study Group there will be a selection saying: 5. Currently I believe there is no way for us to Talk to them, but when I first got these instructions there was a line that said "You should be able to type in comments or questions during the broadcast -- the Skypecast computer is monitored by Chris Riggio."” But I didn’t try it, so I don’t know if we can or can’t. 6. After this you don’t even need your Internet Browser running, you can shut if down if you like. |

How Can I participate in the Groups? Well the first thing you’ll have to understand that it is Their Study Group. From what I can gather they have upwards of 30 people attending every session. With that said the way we can communicate with them is by texting them a message. How do you do that? 1. From the Skype window move the Skype cursor over anyone you wish to have a conversation with.
2. Once you are over the person you will see two new icons. If you press the icon on the left and you will in fact be asking that person to start a conversion, only in a new window.
3. This illustrates the communication window, this has everything you need to have a conversion.
That’s it, now you are communicating with the other person! |
